Eating Well May Support Healthy Hearing

Although you may know about the importance of diet to your overall health; you may not be aware of the connection between healthy eating and your ability to hear. Take minerals, for instance: there are a lot of them, each with a different health benefit. Learn how they may be helpful to your hearing:

Potassium regulates the amount of fluid in your body. The inner ear is very dependent on a fine balance certain fluids, therefore, a good supply of Potassium is important in hearing health.

Folic Acidhas been connected to reducing the likelihood of a type of hearing loss called presbycusis, better known as age-related hearing loss. It may also help blood circulation in the inner ear by breaking down a compound known to restrict circulation.

Magnesium has been found to serve as a possible protective barrier for the hair cells of the inner ear, warding off noise-induced hearing loss. Low Magnesium levels can also cause blood-vessel shrinkage which restricts the healthy flow of blood to the inner ear.

Zinc is a very busy mineral, dealing with cell growth, healing wounds and fighting germs that cause problems such as ear infections. Research has even indicated that Zinc may help with tinnitus that isn’t related to hearing loss.

There are plenty of sources for Zinc: cashews, almonds, peanuts, split peas and lentils, to name just a few.  So, with that in mind, we’d like to share a fun, hearing-healthy recipe!
